COLE MEZAK: Mission Viejo, CA.

 

RESiNMAG.COM: Where do you live?

COLE MEZAK: San Juan Capistrano, CA.

 

RESiNMAG.COM: How old are you?

COLE MEZAK: 8.

 

RESiNMAG.COM: Do you have any brothers or sisters?

COLE MEZAK: Yes, I have a twin sister named Brooke.

 

RESiNMAG.COM: So tell me how old you were the first time you surfed and if you can remember what was that like?

COLE MEZAK: “I was 2.  It was like I was just sitting there and then out of the blue I got stood up on the front of my dad’s board. My dad says I smiled.”

 

RESiNMAG.COM: You also have little half pipe in your backyard and like to skate, do you like Skating or Surfing better?

COLE MEZAK: "Surfing, when you fall it doesn’t hurt as bad.”

 

RESiNMAG.COM: Your dad Trevor Mezak is an ex pro surfer do you want to grow up to be like dad?

COLE MEZAK: “Yes, but not an EX pro surfer.  My dad only was a pro for a little while, then he became a professional artist.”

 

RESiNMAG.COM: You live in Southern California and are growing up in an area known for having some of the best surf. Where did you catch your first wave?

COLE MEZAK: “I caught my first wave at Dog Patch at San Onofre.”

 

RESiNMAG.COM: What is a trick that you would like to pull?

COLE MEZAK: “I’m trying to do airs. I want to do a Rodeo Flip. I’m also trying to invent my own aerial move called the Air Flip.

 

RESiNMAG.COM: What is that?

COLE MEZAK: “It’s like a skateboarding Kick Flip, but you have to grab the board and flip it under your feet.”

 

RESiNMAG.COM: Have you done any contests?

COLE MEZAK: “Yes, I compete in the WSA and a lot of the local contests.”

 

RESiNMAG.COM: Do you like doing them?

COLE MEZAK: “Yes, but I don’t really like to lose.”

 

RESiNMAG.COM: What is the best finish so far?

COLE MEZAK: “I got first in the DLSA Menehune contest.“

 

RESiNMAG.COM: Do you have a strategy?

COLE MEZAK: “Yes, I sit in the lineup and let the other kids sit on the inside. Basically, I wait for the good set waves.”

 

RESiNMAG.COM: What do you like to do when you’re not surfing?

COLE MEZAK: “I usually like to skateboard, play Legos, and I like practicing aerial moves on my surf skate in the pool.”

 

RESiNMAG.COM: So I know that it’s early in your surfing career, but can you list off all the sponsors you ride for?

COLE MEZAK: “Yes, Fox Head, Monster Energy Drink, Spy Sunglasses, Globe Shoes, Creatures of Leisure, FreeStyle Watches, Killer Dana Surf Shop, VOID Syndicate Clothing, San O Liquor (Tim gives me discounts on ice cream after I surf!), and of course Plus One Surfboards. They make really good boards. George used to be a rocket scientist.  I think that’s why his boards are so fast.”

 

RESiNMAG.COM: Who would you like to add to that list some day?

COLE MEZAK: “My dad and I started VOID Syndicate, so I want to promote it, but I would like to ride for one of the big clothing companies and maybe for the Apple Store. Oh, you know what would be sick?  Sponsored by Legos! Free Legos! Sick!!!”
