RESiN: Where were you Born?
MARiS: Mission Viejo, CA.
RESiN: Where do you reside?
MARiS: In San Clemente and Laguna Niguel
RESiN: How old were you when you realized you had artistic talent?
MARiS: I don’t think I have that much artistic talent I just always kept making art.
RESiN: Nice, you’re talented. But I like how you keep it simple.
RESiN: What was your first completed piece of?
MARiS: Oh my- maybe a rainbow in kindergarten? Aha I don’t think many are complete to be honest- they always feel unfinished
RESiN: How would you describe your own work in a sentence?
MARiS: Cool shit that I would want to put on my walls and have live with me in my house.
RESiN: What style of painter are you? More than 1 which is your favorite?
MARiS: I guess you could say my style references realism in terms of light and space and subject matter. But I don’t think I am seasoned enough yet to narrow myself down to one style. I like all different styles.
RESiN: Who are some of your favorite artists?
MARiS: Umm classic painters are great- some of my friends. Alex Schaefer is an L.A based artist that has influenced me a lot.
RESiN: What kind of schooling have you had?
MARiS: I am 2 semesters away from getting my BFA from Cal state Long Beach.
RESiN: What or who inspires you to paint and what you paint?
MARiS: The people around me definitely. I get excited about things or images when I know that it will get my friends and the people around me excited about it. Things that people can relate to. Especially the choice of the wave theme because it’s such
a big part of peoples’ lives in this community. Also majorly- photo referencing water photography like Clark Little and Anthony Walsh. They take such cool photos!!
RESiN: Were would you like to be with your art career in 5 yrs?
MARiS: I don’t know- a better artist and a happy person; wherever and however that may be.
RESiN: Love It!!
RESiN: How do you want your art to be seen or described by other people?
“Check out this chick’s art its amazing!” hahaha
RESiN: Do you have any advice or wise words for up and coming artists?
MARiS: Keep Truckin!
RESiN: What is the most expensive piece you ever sold?
MARiS: Aww I sell em for peanuts 😉
RESiN: What are you working on right now?
MARiS: A big giant orange wave barrel!
RESiN: Anything you would like to plug?
MARiS: Plug? Huh?
RESiN: Are you presently making your living as an Artist? Do you have advice for artists who would like to also do this?
MARiS: No. I wish I was. I’ll just take my own advice and keep truckin;)
RESiN: If you could go anywhere in the world to paint or teach, where would you go?
MARiS: Back to Bali!!! or Sumatra or Borneo. Really want to go see the orangutans.
RESiN: If you were not doing art what would you be doing?
MARiS: I don’t know- I feel like if you are artistic it will just let itself out in one outlet or another.
RESiN: Agreed… GOOD ANSWER
RESiN: How has work evolved over the years?
MARiS: Hopefully getting better. I am trying to
put more time into the planning of a piece nowadays.
