RESiN: Where were you Born?
Nathan Wyburn: Abergavenny, South Wales, UK
RESiN: Where do you reside?
Nathan Wyburn: My permanent home is with my parents in Ebbw Vale, Wales, but currently live in Cardiff for my university degree.
RESiN: How old were you when you realized you had artistic talent?
Nathan Wyburn: I was about 14 when I really got into my art, I would sit down and draw with my father, and as I got to do it in school more, and then throughout college it became a very huge part of my life.
RESiN: What was your first completed piece of?
Nathan Wyburn: My first big notable piece would be a piece I did for my college course where I created a 7ft by 5ft self portrait. Which I believe still hangs in my college hallway.
RESiN: Is that when you new that is what you wanted to do with your life?
Nathan Wyburn: It was around then yes, maybe not exactly that piece but in college was the time when i was taking this serious as a potential life career path.
RESiN: How would you describe your own work in a sentence?
Nathan Wyburn: Oh gosh, urm.. my Youtube work is educational, entertaining and extremely fun to create and get the feedback i do from youtubers.
RESiN: What style of painting are you ? More than one which is your favorite?
Nathan Wyburn: I tend to work in portraiture more than anything else, realistic graphite and paint pieces, bu occasionally odd mediums such as chocolate and Marmite on toast.
RESiN: What kind of schooling have you had?
Nathan Wyburn: I had passed my GCSE’s with 4 B’s 3A’s and 2A*’s on of which being art, as well as my A levels where i got an A in photography and B in art and a C in geography, then on to do a foundation degree where i achieved a Distinction, and a qualification in film studies and life drawing, which has brought me onto my university degree Im currently in the first year of.
RESiN: What or who inspires you to paint and what you paint?
Nathan Wyburn: The celebrities I have drawn on Youtube are often people I’m fans of myself, people that entertain me and make me happy, so its like I’m giving something back to them, I also take requests off people.
RESiN: Were would you like to be in 5 yrs?
Nathan Wyburn: Hopefully passed my university degree, maybe doing a teaching or tattooing apprenticeship, or in a nice studio creating commissions. I also adore the idea of maybe working with TV, possibly children’s/family t.v. where I’m creating such video works, such as the program Art Attack.
RESiN: How do you want your art to be seen or described by other people?
Nathan Wyburn: I just want people to enjoy it, I don’t mind people’s opinions, its part of being an artist, you accept them and learn, i want people to look at what I’ve done from nothing and realize the benefits you can get if you really try.
RESiN: Do you have any advice or wise words for up and coming artists?
Nathan Wyburn: Just keep at it, there’s time when you think.. nothing can surely come of me doing this, I need a “real” job, but if it makes you happy, you stick at it.
RESiN: What is the most expensive piece you ever sold?
Nathan Wyburn: I once sold an A2 painting of heath ledgers joker for £200, that’s the most expensive to date.
RESiN: What are you working on right now?
Nathan Wyburn: Just my university work and a few commissions I’ve got to do on the side from people who have got in contact with me after viewing my Youtube.
