RESiN: I know it’s not polite to ask a young lady how old she is.. But how old are you?
PAiGE YOMOGiDA: I am almost 18 years old.
RESiN: How old were you when you realized you had artistic talent?
PAiGE YOMOGiDA: Well, I was painting my nails when I was 3, but I didn’t actually start painting until I was in Kindergarten. It was probably around 1st or 2nd grade.
RESiN: What was your first completed piece of?
PAiGE YOMOGiDA: I painted dozens of beach scenes while in Elementary school, but one of my first serious paintings was a Jimi Hendrix in 7th grade.
RESiN: Is that when you knew that is what you wanted to do with your life?
PAiGE YOMOGiDA: I wasn’t as serious about art then. But now I definitely want to go to art school or design school for college!
RESiN: How would you describe your own work in a sentence?
PAiGE YOMOGiDA: My art is a combination of retro pop with a modern twist.
RESiN: Can you explain your creative process when it comes to creating a piece?
PAiGE YOMOGiDA: First, I sketch the portrait on newsprint and color the shadows with markers to see if I like it. Then I trace the portrait onto the canvas and outline it in sharpie. I cover the face with newsprint and press the background with stamps. Lastly, I paint the portrait white and finish the detail with red and black shadows.
RESiN: Who are some of your favorite artists?
PAiGE YOMOGiDA: Shepard Fairey and Andy Warhol
RESiN: What kind of schooling have you had?
PAiGE YOMOGiDA: I took art in 8th grade for elective credits and then two classes outside of school. One was a charcoal and the other was oil.
RESiN: What or who inspires you to paint and what you paint?
PAiGE YOMOGiDA: My brother, Jackson, is a huge inspiration. He’s my motivator and we sometimes throw ideas around. A lot of my work is commission pieces as well.
RESiN: Were would you like to be with your art career in 5 yrs?
PAiGE YOMOGiDA: I’d like to be at school either majoring in industrial design or graphic design. One of my goals is to own and design a clothing and accessories line!
RESiN: Do you have any advice or wise words for up and coming artists?
PAiGE YOMOGiDA: More like, does anyone have any advice for me?! I’m only 17 years old haha
RESiN: Good Point.
RESiN: What are you working on right now?
PAiGE YOMOGiDA: I’m working on a few iconic people. Starting with Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Twiggy, then I might mess around with another Jimi Hendrix or Bob Dylan.
RESiN: Anything you would like to plug?
PAiGE YOMOGiDA: Huge thanks to my wonderful brother for helping me set up my website and of course thank you to my family and friends for being so supportive!
