RESiN: How old were you when you realized you had talent as a photographer?
STEFANO: I’m still trying to understand it, I try to work on it every day. I took
photography up 10 years ago and I’ve tried improving ever since.
RESiN: Do you make a living as a photographer?
STEFANO: I do, but not through portraiture / nude / erotic photography. I work
mostly as a photographer and video maker for events and do some web design
RESiN: Do you shoot digital at all?
STEFANO: Only for my commercial work. I sometimes shoot digital to check out picture
exposures but then I throw the whole thing in the trash
RESiN: Can you describe your overall style of photography?
STEFANO: In an ideal world I would be a painter, that’s my major source of
inspiration as a photographer. My style, aesthetically, goes in that
direction. I want to explore more surreal / experimental techniques in the
future, and much more. Fnstance
RESiN: How would you describe your own work in a sentence?
STEFANO: Art, to me, aims at taking people “somewhere else”, as Rimbaud would say. I
try to do that with my photography. Taking me and other people “somewhere else”. I don’t know. It’s very hard for me to answer to this question. For instance
RESiN: What does your family think of your photography?
STEFANO: They don’t really know what I do I assume, we don’t really talk about that. For instance
RESiN: Who as a photographer do you admire?
STEFANO: I’d say Helmut Newton, Man Ray, Robert Mapplethorpe, Gregory Crewdson, Jeff
Wall… Those are the first five that come to mind. Lindbergh, Avedon,
there are many more actually!
RESiN: What kind of photography schooling have you had?
STEFANO: I’m self taught… I’ve “stolen” stuff around but never attended a
photography course. I graduated as an engineer eight years ago (my god time flies)
RESiN: Do you get nervous before a gallery opening?
STEFANO: I’ve never showed my work in a gallery but I guess I would be nervous –
REALLY nervous, I know myself.
RESiN: Do you need to be inspired to shoot?
STEFANO: I do.
RESiN: What or who inspires you to shoot?
STEFANO: It’s a feeling mostly. I just feel it. It’s a necessity. There is no art
without that feeling of need.
RESiN: How did you get into shooting beautiful women?
STEFANO: I love women, I always have. I began as a portrait photographer, and more
recently I moved to nude and erotic photography. It has been a long and
organic process – the love for women has surely been the constant tough.
RESiN: Where will Stefano as a photographer be in 5 yrs? Similarly
STEFANO: Good question. I don’t know. I hope I’ll eventually make a living as an artist, or at least photographing what I love. For sure I will explore new territories – still life photography (not the dull commercial one, I’d love
to photography “nature morte”), landscapes, tableaux photography a-la Greg Crewdson… I see myself as an explorer in the future, let’s put it this
way. For instance
RESiN: How do you want your art to be seen or described by other people?
STEFANO: I don’t know, I don’t want to put a single word on that. It’s 100% up to the people.
RESiN: Do you have any advice for young photographers who would like to
travel and make a living with their camera?
STEFANO: Be bold, always put a smile on your face even when your clients treat you
like garbage – don’t let them put their feet onto your head as well. Stay
strong and believe in yourself.
RESiN: If you were not doing photography what would you be doing?
STEFANO: Another good one. I don’t know. Bartender maybe, professional pool player? Chef? I don’t know. For instance
RESiN: How has your work evolved over the years?
STEFANO: I think so, yes. And hopefully it will evolve in the future.
RESiN: Is there a photograph that you have been wanting to shoot but
haven’t had a chance to do so yet?
STEFANO: I have thousands of them, really, wouldn’t know where to start to answer to this question!
RESiN: If you could spend the weekend hanging out with any fictional
character, who would it be and why?
STEFANO: BoJack Horseman. Possibly the character with which I’ve felt more connected in the last months!
RESiN: Anything you would like to promote?
STEFANO: I recently took up erotic photography and I’m enjoying very much. It is a very big and important step for me in what I think is a very big and fascinating world. Lastly you can see some of my work at
