The Devil Makes Three – The Devil Makes Three
O.K. I know I am like a lot of you, I like all music except for country. I have said that over and over again when talking about music. The Devil Makes Three though been called country, is not your typical band in any sense of the word. They are a story telling bluegrass genre if there is one, Folk Punk has been used. This three piece acoustic band out of Santa Cruz which consist of guitarist Peter Bernhard an upright Bassist, Lucia Turino (i have always loved the stand up base) and Cooper McBean on the Banjo.
Of the four albums released The Devil Makes Three is the bands first album released on the label Monkey-wrench in 2002 and was re-released on the Milan Lablen in 2007. A fan favorite is an Homage to Jack Daniels Whiskey “Old Number Seven“.“I didn’t set out to write about a particular product, but it just came to me. I had the chord progression, and the next thing you know I was singing.” According to front man Peter Bernhard. One of my personal favorites is “Shades” basically singing about a small town where under age girls post up at the bar getting their free drink on with lyrics that go “and with the shades drawn everything just drifts away” They KiCK ASS from the first song to the last. Haven’t heard much like it and that is so so rare these days.
